QUESTIONS:
How long have you been on the Fun Bus Team?
I actually started working at the Fun Bus on November 15, 1996...the very first official day of our incorporation.
What made you want to join the Fun Bus Team?
Rebecca and I had discussed the concept for a couple years. One day she came to my office and informed me that she quit her job and wanted to buy a bus, and by the way—did I know ANYONE that would loan her the money to buy it? Of course, this was 1996 when you actually COULD get a loan! Once I realized she was serious,
I realized that she needed help to get it off the ground. I sent her to my long-time friend, David George. Amazingly, she got the loan with out experience, without customers, without another job and no visible means of repayment! It was obvious that she still needed a little more help, so I really had no choice! However, without David George, the FUN BUS probably would not exist!
How long have you been driving a bus?
Since the first trip that we booked—I was the ONLY driver!
Describe your most memorable/ colorful Fun Bus customer.
For me, the most memorable customer was our first customer, Mary Moose. She chartered a coach to go to the Oglebay Festival of Lights in Wheeling. 20 people and they all came back happy! We were an “overnight” success!
What is your favorite Fun Bus destination? Why?
That’s easy! Nashville, New Orleans, Chicago, anywhere there’s OSU football or a NASCAR race. Also, St. Simons Island ranks right up there, as well...
What has been your best/worst Fun Bus experience?
Also easy to decide, but not pleasant to remember...the day my long-time friend, my long-time truck driver, and our first FUN BUS driver (other than me), Jim Martin passed away. However, we had comfort knowing that he was having fun at his job, right up to the end. He delivered a bus full of ladies to the airport just prior to that event!
Describe your very best Fun Bus day.
They’re all good! Anytime you get to travel, see and do things while someone else pays for it—it’s got to be good!
What did you do before joining the Fun Bus Team?
My background has always been in the transportation industry. Prior to the FUN BUS, I was in the trucking business for about 25 years, and operated my own company for most of that. Along the way, I was also involved in the clay products industry and also the oil & gas industry. Amazingly, most of my adult employed life has been spent on Clay Road in Junction City. I have driven professionally since I was 18 years old.
What do you like to do when you are not performing your duties for the Fun Bus?
I am active in a few organizations, both public service and professional. I am a board member for our local Community Action Agency, and also serve on the board of the Ohio Travel Association. For fun, I do get in an occasional round of golf, do some traveling (disguised as a FUN BUS research trip!) and spend some “quality” time at Buckeye Lake!
Why do you think passengers should choose the Fun Bus for their transportation needs?
Another easy question. Our standards for everything are just different that what you will find at many other companies. Our requirements for drivers are higher, our coaches are cleaner, our tours are a great value and our commitment to safety and comfort for our customers is unsurpassed. We are not always going to provide our services at the lowest price, but we never compromise price for quality.
